Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2013-2014Healthcare has long been a fast-growing, stable field in which to pursue a career, and construction seems to be making a comeback after the recession. The recently released Occupational Outlook Handbook 2013-2014lists the top occupations with the fastest growth projected through 2020, and healthcare and construction positions dominate the list.

Here are the top eight occupations with the fastest projected growth:

1. Personal Care Aides

  • Percent Change: 70
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 607,000
  • Wages: $19,640

2. Home Health Aides

  • Percent Change: 69
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 706,300
  • Wages: $20,560

3. Biomedical Engineers

  • Percent Change: 62
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 9,700
  • Wages: $81,540

4. Helpers—Brickmasons, Blockmasons, Stonemasons, and Tile and Marble Setters

  • Percent Change: 60
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 17,600
  • Wages: $27,780

5. Helpers—Carpenters

  • Percent Change: 56
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 25,900
  • Wages: $25,760

6. Veterinary Technologists and Technicians

  • Percent Change: 52
  • Number of New Jobs Added: 41,700
  • Wages: $29,710

7. Reinforcing Iron and Rebar Workers
